Photos from the WotF Week -- September, 1999

This is the Manor Hotel--Celebrity Centre International, and home to 12 Writers of the Future for a week in September.
Bill Rowland, Bruce (Franklin) Thatcher, Jim Hines, and me hang around the back loby. It's really a beautiful place, and a great place to get work done.

The Workshop begins. No comment about the brown-noser at the front of the room, all right? I'm making up for all those college courses I slept through!

Algis and Edna.
Jerry Pournell, Tim Powers, and Tim's lovely better half, Serena.

Tim Powers and Amy Casil. Two fine writers.
Kevin J. Anderson presents my award. I was glad Kevin was my presenter. I truly admire his accomplishments.

Hamming it up on stage. People seemed to like what I said, and I really had a good time this year.

After the awards, there was quite a lot of booksigning going on.
The next day, we had a few books left to sign. Seemed to me there were fewer this year than last.

Maybe my favorite moment of the week. Scott Nicholson, Amy Casil, and me--the three returning finalists--stand in front of the Battlefield Earth display at the L. Ron Hubbard Life Museum on the last day there.

No longer Writers of the Future.
