Sorry to be away for so long...it's like this.

The GOOD NEWS: I tore myself away from work and writing for nine days, and the family went to Washington, D. C. for vacation. It was a real blast, highlighted by several Smithsonians (Air and Space being, of course, my favorite), incredible monuments (Jefferson's, Tomb of the Unknowns, and the Vietnam Wall being the most memorable), lots of walking (good for me, right?), and even a series of trips to the swimming pool with Brigid.

The BAD NEWS: When we returned our computer apparently decided now was as good of a time to give up the ghost as any. We either managed to catch a virus, or by some sadistic turn of random luck a single cluster on a hard drive of 1.6G (the one that housed our Windows directory), just happened to die. I don't know of a virus that can do actual damage to a hard drive, but...well, you call it!

Anyway, to make matters worse, we can't just reinstall windows and have at it, as we bought this system from AST, and their Windows program is embedded in a CD of a bunch of their own proprietary junk. Hence, our only real option is to nuke the hard disk and start over again. However, we've come up with another solution. After a long, cascading series of discussions we've managed to convince ourselves that the best solution for our family is to purchase two new systems (don't ask, it's a truly convoluted series of rationalizations!).

The upshot of this is that we're without my primary machine until after July 7th. I'll try to update my page through this machine, but it's a bit more difficult and I may not get much accomplished. Anyway, thanks for hanging with me.

In the meantime, you can see I've had a few rejections. Will detail them later.
