It's done!

Thanks to Lisa, who gave up a little quality tie with me this week so I could finish, the latest draft of Gene Splice is complete minus the little knick-knacks I spoke of the last few days. I'm very happy with it from a macro-story point of view, but it ended up at 82,000 words--a growth of almost 17,000 from the previous version. I'm concerned that all the micro-editing I've done may have left a few rough edges.

But I'll attack that problem when we're back from Worldcon. Lisa will be copy-editing it, so I know I'll get another (hopefully) quick run through.

Oddly, though, finishing a novel always leaves me a little dull. I get geared up for the challenge, and my blood gets to pumping as I'm working. Things move, progress is made. Then it all ends, and I don't know what to do with myself!

Makes me glad Worldcon is here.

By the way ... this may be my last entry for awhile. I'll be in San Antonio, and will drop reports if I get the chance. But i'm not promising anything!
