CoolStop Site of the Day
October 17, 1997

     The plan called for me to finish with "Whispers in the Darkness" by today. In fact, I kinda thought I would be beginning to look at "Riding the Wire" by now, and setting myself up for the stretch run into the November Novel Dare.

     What the plan didn't call for was -->p e r s i s t e n c e<-- being CoolCentral's "Cool Site of the Day".

     My first inkling was finding the hit counter standing at 829 early Thursday morning. I figured something had gone wrong at SFF.NET. But when my e-mailbox was totally jammed, it all became clear. What a great boon! What great fun! I appreciate all the feedback I've received, and am breathing a real sigh of relief that the vast bulk of it is positive.

     I picked up nearly 4,000 hits yesterday, and would have received more but I know sff.net was down for 2-4 hours in the afternoon.

     I sincerly thank whoever nominated the site.

     On the business front, I have managed to prepare five stories for submittal. They're in Lisa's hands now, and I expect they'll hit the mail sometime around Monday or so. Brings my total circulation up to something like 23 manuscripts.

     In addition, I contacted the editor of an original anthology for clarification on their word count requirements and other elements of their publication, and (finally) arranged for my online distribution of Speculations interim issues. If you're a new writer in this genre and you haven't looked into this publication, you probably should.

     No new rejections for several days.

     Wonder if the editors of the world have just decided I've fallen off the edge of existence. Eep!

     Anyway.

     Back to "Whispers in the Darkness."

     See ya tomorrow.
