Thanks.

My last entry drew a couple fairly long e-mails that helped me view things from a bit more positive direction. One of the things I love about the writing community is the way it looks out after each other.

Received a rejection today from Warren Lapine at Absolute Magnitude. He spoke well of "Echoes in a Shattering Silence" but it didn't manage to cross the wire. This is a good one (if I can be so bold as to state that) and I'm fairly certain it will sell to some lucky magazine somewhere!

I threw myself into "Whipsers in the Darkness" this morning, and managed to get through some 1500 words once the pump was primed. After several weeks of effort on it, the story is still flabby. So, I'm taking the approach of re-keying in a bunch of it, turning the tale inside out, and trying to grasp the basic point I'm trying to make. This story's problem, I've decided, is that I'm making as many as three points with it--a scope that is just too ambitious for a short story.

So I think I'll either expand it to a novelette or cut it down to about a 6K words short story. The ultimate decision will be made as I wade through it.
