Received a rejectiong from Adventures of Sword and Sorcery yesterday. Second one in February.

I plan to spend the day reading further on gangsters. One of the things I'm really finding to be fun about this writing stuff is that you get to learn so many interesting things as you get better at it.

Let me explain.

When I was really learning to write (not that I really know much now--but I am better than I was before!), I spent all my time at athe keyboard. I needed to. I needed to learn how to push verbs against nouns and how to cut down on my excess wordage (still sometimes a problem). I needed to understand what made a story tick. In otherwords, I was still early in my first million words.

Well, I'm nearing the end of those million.

Now I'm much more confident of my ability to produce professional prose. And now I understand character and story so much better. I've grown to love "in progress" stories for what they could someday be, rather than what they are right now. And as I am writing, I more and more find myself thinking "This story really needs a piece of information that I just flat-out don't know."

I think it's a good thing, you know?

The only danger is that I'm liable to spend all my time researching, and not enough writing!
