Looks like it'll be a decent day for the derby. Good news.

For those of you weho don't know, I grew up in Louisville. Derby week was always a fascinating time. Weird folks from across the country descended on the city, and on derby day there were parties mint julips, and women with big hats that they normally wouldn't be seen dead under!

There are events that help define us as a people, I suppose, and this is certainly one. It's a ritual. A ceremony. A chance to watch beautiful animals run--and of course, maybe even lose a few bucks because of them.

On the writing front, I'm in the backstretch . . . you know, that area of the track where you just hold on and try to position yourself for the turn.

I packaged up a couple stories and have them ready to mail. I plan to spend today and tomorrow cleaning up a couple more stories that I've been holding for rewrites. Then head into the homestretch and focus on something new.

With any luck, I'll place somewhere in the money!
