I love awards. I'm one of those people who often stay up too late watching the Oscars. Success is inspiring. It's emotionally satisfying to see people who have worked so very hard stand in front of their peers and be rewarded. Yes, some of them are jerks. But most of them seem to be honestly moved, and often even totally unprepared for their success.

My congratulations to all the folks who won Nebulas. They are all fine representatives of the genre, and people whose stories I would love to be able to emulate.

I finished a rewrite of "A Place to Call Home." It's a ghost story I really love--but one that's a tweener . . . you know, one that fits between all the cliched cracks of the standard the genre considers "acceptable." But as I finished it, I stilll felt the emotions I felt when I first wrote it--so in a sense, the tale is already a success.
