Wow.

We just came back from the Kris and Dean show (& Inconjunction) in Indianapolis. I've learned so much in the past couple days that I wouldn't even know where to start describing it in full--but mostly I've learned I'm not writing enough. Yes, I did two novels and a dozen or so short stories last year. But I could have done more. Worse than that, my production in the first six months of 1998 has been 7 or 8 short stories, and that's it.

My last novel is coming off the printer as I type.

It will be ready for Worldcon.

Other great things about the weekend: We heard Charles Eckert play his guitar, learned Kris Rusch and Dean Smith are flat-out neat people, met Danna Drapeau and Thomas Hull (current IMPS), and got to touch bases with Tony Bryant and Mike Resnick again. In addition, I met Vincent DiFate and learned a little about how art is developed in the science fiction business. Overall, a really nice time.

But to be honest . . . I could have come back after Friday's session, then spent my weekend writing and have been just as content. That's how good the Kris and Dean show was for me. It made me want to write.

I can think of no higher praise.
