Did I ever tell you how much I like this character I'm writing about? I'm sure I did somewhere, you know. If you're interested in how I felt as I first wrote the first draft of the novel I'm writing now, check out the sidebar.

Of course, if you're sane like most folk, you'll avoid it like the plague [grin].

Made it through another 6,000 words over the last two mornings. These have been tough areas, too. Areas where the idea of the first draft was good, but the execution was, let's say, rushed.

Can you say "deadline-driven?"

An outline does so much for me in this situation. Knowing exactly what's going to happen in the future and exactly what has happened in the past makes figuring out how characters ought to act in any situation so much easier.

And the words fly on by.

See you tomorrow.

"Your work as a writer, when you are giving everything you have to your characters and to your readers, will periodically make you feel like the single parent of a three-year-old, who is, by turns, wonderful, willful, terrible, crazed, and adoring."
