Cummins stock fell something like 7.5 points yesterday. Thank goodness I have my writing to fall back on, eh? [ insert incredibly sarcastic grin here ]

"A Gathering of Bones" is finished through second draft, and I've sent it to Laura for her magic touch. Now it's time to start something new.

I keep a calendar on the edge of my desk. Every time I send a submission anywhere, I record the date I think it ought to be coming back to me, and how many days that return would be. I base my expected reply dates on past history, the market reports, and general understanding of where each editor is in their workload (if I know this, anyway).

This morning I looked at it for the first time in, well, weeks.

Is it just me, or has pretty much everyone stopped getting anything back from editors? The good news, of course, is that I haven't received a rejection in nearly a month. The bad news is I haven't received any acceptances, either.

Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I know. World Con.

I'm generally not too concerned with long response times. But I've got eight stories that have been out for over 130 days and two more that are "past due."

I guess it's time to start doing the query thing.

     Oh, well.

Good thing I have the day job to fall back on, eh?
