Helping to Build the Web

Spent the the whole day doing web stuff, totally immersed in a world full of HTML and browser compatibility and other truths of the world that we would rather not think about as we click along the Information Superhighway. Actually had a good deal of fun working on new stuff and playing with graphic tools that I haven't had the ability to really use much, so I learned a lot.

Think old man working in the garage woodshop, and you've got the idea of how my day went.

In many ways, despite its seeming fragility, the web can be a beautiful thing. Everything is content (note, I didn't say that everything was good content). Everything carries a message (note I didn't say that everything was a good message). The web is the ultimate proof of Heisenberg's principle, it changes everytime it's touched, morphing more rapidly than anyone can understand.

And despite the fact that I'm not yet as good as a lot of other folks that roam the wires, I'm really pleased to, in some small way, be contributing to its progress.

"You gain a certain satisfaction from building a web page from the groud up. You'll know about every brick and board that went into it, and you'll have the know-how to tweak each one so that the result is just what you wanted. On the other side is the fun of seeing other Web pages and knowing how the page author and designer worked to develop the intended effect."
