I managed to finish the first draft of "1 is True, 0 False" this morning. It's pretty rough, and at 5,500 words it probably needs another 1,000 or so. But it has a beginning, a middle, and an end, so I think it qualifies as a full draft.

Also, since I mentioned it earlier, I should mention that all issues with the Analog contract are smoothed, and things are moving along there.

The mailbox has been pretty quiet.

As part of the American Girls publicity whirlwind, Lisa submitted this photograph to a small town newspaper, and they printed it. I thought it was pretty cool, so I put it up here.

With Brigid on Spring Break this week, we're preparing to go on a short vacation. We're going to learn a bit about Abraham Lincoln, and we're going to spend a couple days just kind of playing. I do NOT intend to take a computer, and I do NOT intend to do any writing.

I intend to swim with Brigid. I intend to look at stuff closely. I intend to participate in real life--the place we're going has horseback riding and miniature golf and swimming and shops and trails and a bunch of other things to keep us occupied. I even intend to maybe read a little.

Ought to be a great time.

Of course, I guess I could argue about the veracity of my earlier statement when I said I wouldn't be writing. A writer writes, even when he has no pen or when he has not computer keyboard. He writes by paying attention to the rest of the world, and by filtering these observances through is own personal viewpoint. He can't help it, I suppose. And when it's going well, this is the absoulte best part of being a writer.

The ability to experience the rest of life.

It's the payoff for hours behind the monitor.

Have a great day.
