So I finshed "Phantom Lives", wich isn't "Phantom Lives" anymore, but something else entirely ... unless I change my mind again. And I said to myself, "You know, I need another time sink."

So I've spent the last six working hours arranging my use of newsgroups I'm interested in. Jeeze. Am I stupid or what? No, don't answer that.

I'm also in the process of reading Anne Lamott's Hard Laughter, which I'm doing my best to think of as not really a time sink so much as a foray into my education in how to describe characters without terribly bogging down my stories (which I think I do quite often).

I recently saw a VH-1 interview where Greg Allman is talking about how easy it is to clutter up a good blues song. In it he says, grinning like a man who knows what he's talking about, "You want one cluttered, you just give it to me and I'll take care of it."

Well, you want a story bogged down by a character, you just give it to me and I'll take care of it.

Every story is different, of course, but I'm sensitive to this issue right now because that's the problem I've had with the last story--the character, I think, is too mushy, and clutters that story a little too much. I've got to get crisper.

My opinion only, of course.

But then, this is my place, so you can't really argue, now, can you? unless, of course, you decide to go my newsgroup, which is freshly cleaned and spiffy again. [sly grin]

Getting ready to head up to Greenwood for the afternoon, and see the Bodin/Castleman duo. Think we'll see a movie, then have dinner.

Have a very good one.
