A Scary Night in TV Land
November 1, 1999

I spent a good chunk of last night watching TV. I don't do TV as a rule these days, as it seems like we have so little time as it is.

But I saw all the coverage on the Egypt Air flight. And I saw footage on Greg Moore as his race car disintigrated around him, and I watched a football game (the end of the Colts beating the Cowbys--as an old Redskins fan, I can enjoy any game where the Cowboys lose) where a player appeared to suffer a potentially life altering spinal chord injury.

After all these things, I felt unsettled. Maybe I shouldn't watch TV. I don't know. But here are three quick examples of what happens in real life. Of course, next thing you know there will be someone suggesting we ban planes and cars and football games, and then I'll know I'm back in the real world.

Anyway, be careful out there today, all right?

And remember to enjoy whatever comes your way as it comes. After all, there are no promises, you know?

Yeah, but will they be any good?
