Ok, I've got the date right. Who says Science Fiction writers don't see the future, eh?

Spent most of the morning preparing submissions. Enough said about that.

I received my copy of the latest issue of Altair. Robert Stephenson put "The Color of Pain" in the anchor spot--last story in the issue. I don't know how he usually works, but I'll take that as a sign he liked it quite a lot. It's especiall nice to see that tale in print. It's one that I happen to really like.

I think I'm getting my stuff back in order. Still, I feel like I'm out on the surf waiting for a wave.

I met Ben Roberts yesterday. Ben is a high school senior, and he's working on a SF/Fantasy novel as his senior project. I was lucky enough to be asked to serve as his mentor.

     We met at the library.

He's a fine young man. He seems gentle and well-spoken. When he talks about his story he can hit the high-points and avoid rambling for hours on minutia--a really good sign. The project is due in May--and he's (guessing) about half-way through.

He interviewed me (part of his assignment), and we talked about writing and storytelling and rejections. He's still searching, of course. If he's lucky maybe he'll decide he can get away without being a writer--but I wonder. He told me he started this project because he had an idea that he really enjoyed, so it sounds like he's a writer at heart.

     Pity him! [grin]

Pity him for his gorkie mentor ...
