The Most Wonderful Thing

Needless to say, it hasn't been the most productive of weekends in regard to writing. But I'll admit I feel better with this thing done. If nothing else, it represents progress of some sort.

And, in another attempt to gain focus, I cleared my plan. Did a total reset. I took all the stories I've been working on (4 short stories, and article, and a novel clean-up), and zeroed it out. It was a hard thing for me to do, but it had to be done--and doing it was like peeling a new skin, once I was finished I felt a lot better. A long time ago I wrote about removing expectation as a stress reliever. I said that when I had a high performer on my team, and they got a bit overwhelmed, the first thing I tried to do was put them in a frame of mind that said it was okay to not be operating at 115% of rated power.

So, now my writing "To Do" list is three items long. I'll get at least two of them done this week. The third is questionable, and depends on how well the weekend goes.

     Things are moving.

I can see the horizon. I'm feeling more comfortable.

I think writing, at it's core level, is all about doing things in your life that allow you to be comfortable when you actually sit down to face the page. If you're comfortable, it's fun. If you're confident, you do your best work. And if you do your best work ...

... well, that's about the most wonderful thing that there is, you know?
