"I'm going back in, captain."

I could sense this little piece of dialog today as I sat down to write. The draft is done, but I really didn't like the transitions, and I had rushed the ending to be able to say the draft was done. So, this morning I scrapped the last thousand words or so, and took a little different approach. Tomorrow I'll work on the transitory pieces, and hopefully give it a full once-over. With luck, sometime Sunday I'll consider it almost ready for someone else to read.

Time flies when you're having fun, eh?

Received my July issue of F&SF with Amy Casil's mint story in it. I was there when she did the first draft, and so it's hard for me not to have really fond thoughts of that day with Amy typing madly and chuckling and whispering "Oh, my God," about a million times.

Amy is a fine, fine writer, and an equally great person. I know she had a great time writing that piece, and I'm really pleased for her success.
