A Story Spill
July 9, 2000 10:22 a.m.
I was struck by an idea for a story a few days ago. It kept bothering me and bothering me even though I was concentrating on a series of rewrites and the other new story I'm working on.

This morning I caved and went ahead and wrote it.

The first draft came out at 1,600 words. The second draft finished at something closer to 1,800. Total duration of the effort -- 2 hours. That is, of course, if you don't count the two weeks of keeping it bottled. Stories are strange. Sometimes they flow like this one did. Sometimes you can't keep them bottled and they just spill out over the page and your only real job is to keep the words and thoughts pointing in the right direction. Other times ... well ...

So this morning I welcome "The Tiger and the Owl" to my stable of stories. May it live well. [grin].

In even better news, we're going to leave to get Brigid in something under 45 minutes. [very big, exuberant grin]

I cannot believe how different the house has been without her.
