Lightning Can Strike Twice

It's been a busy couple days, what with Brigid coming home, a new story plopping itself in my lap, and a ton of work stuff going on. I've also been doing some additional research on the latest "Stealing the Sun" hopeful. Last night, I stopped in at a session of a group of new writers here in Columbus.

Buy the way, I suppose I should admit my sins. I recently kept four books out from the library for long enough that it cost me $1.28 to give them back.

Eep!

The goal for new writers, I think, is to keep so busy doing things you enjoy that you don't have time to worry about the pile of submissions you've got out in the cold harsh world. While my ability to do that varies, I've been doing a good job of it lately. A hidden benefit of this approach is that when good things do happen, they tend to hit you unexpectedly and make you walk around for awhile with a dopey grin on your face.

The first good news is that I received the September issue of Analog. If the "Things to Come" news can be trusted. it seems I have next month's cover story. Quite exciting. I've had my name on the cover of magazines before, but I believe this represents the first time I've actually grabbed the cover story. It will come complete with Kelly Freas artwork.

Very, very cool.

Then this morning, I received news that Artemis wants one of my stories for their #4 issue (the one after next). The contract isn't a done deal, yet. But we worked one out once before, so I see no reason why we won't be able to manage the task again. So, this, too, is very cool.

So it's been a good 24 hours.

Doesn't good news come in threes?
