Strange

"It's been a strange weekend," Lisa said yesterday. And it had been.

Friday night Brigid had a friend over for a sleep over--though I'll never understand why the word sleep appears anywhere in that name. Bottom line, they stayed up all night, and Brigid crashed for a few hours Saturday afternoon and was up with Lisa until midnight Saturday night.

Lisa was planning on reading all weekend. Instead, she got an urge to do crafty stuff, and next thing you know we've got yarn and crocheting needles flying everywhere.

Saturday I cut the grass, then headed over to Charles Eckert's place. He's moving apartments, and I helped him cart his PC and a bunch of other things over to the new digs. We did two trips and had a good bit of fun, getting almost everything we had listed in the original plan accomplished. What the original plan hadn't taken into account was that we needed a couple guys with more beef that either Charles or I when it came to the television set (which I'll underestimate as being the size of Nebraska).

So Saturday night I turned in early. We've already covered that Lisa and Brigid were up until all hours.

Sunday I wrote in the morning, and then went over to another friend's house. I was there about three hours, and then came home, watched an hour or so's worth of video tape with Brigid (James Burke's "Connections" series--very fascinating stuff, by the way. All about how different inventions and people are connected). Then I piled back in the car and went over to Charles's place where me, Charles, and four other guys picked up Nebraska and carted it over to his new place.

Dinner Sunday night was mine to cook. I sat outside reading Jack Cady's ""Jeremiah" which is a really interesting story from a structure standpoint. It fits classical storytellling structure if you view the village itself as a character. I need to think about the individuals for a few moments of quiet time before I can convince myself that each character has a standard story plotline--but I'll say it feels like they do...so my gut is almost willing to concede the point. If you've got any different ideas, feel free to let me know.

Then we readied for bed and sat down to watch "Galaxy Quest," a movie we had rented Friday while the girls were sleeping over but hadn't gotten around to actually seeing.

At first I didn't think we had gotten much done. At first it seemed like was pretty slow weekend, almost lazy. Now I'm not so sure.

All I really know is that it wasn't a usual weekend.

And now I've got to get back to work...

     Have a great day.
