     I took Saturday off.

Now, when I say I took the day off, I mean I took the day off. I slept late. I showered, I plopped down in front of the TV and watched football. No writing. No housework. No adding to the GNP in any way imaginable. I don't think I've done that for an entire day in ... well ... in a long time. The feeling of guilt was very thick, though. Half the time all I could really think about was the stuff I needed to get done. The other half all I could think about was how tired I was.

     I don't relax well.

     Go figure, huh?

Sunday, of course, it was back to work--took a spin through the last story. Yes, it needs more work. Also dove into a big critique I had promised a friend. Finished it late in the evening.

Have I mentioned how much I like hitting milestones?

This weekend I realized what a great job I've been doing in ignoring the business aspect of the job.

If you've been following this site, you'll probably have recognized that a certain amount of my effort recently has gone into breaking this concern with the specter of the commercial market wafting over my head as I write. I've been trying to focus on process. Focus on doing good work, and the commercial success will come, says this philosophy.

It's one of those sayings that is true without being true, you know?

Anyway, I looked at my submission chart this weekend. Ugly, ugly, ugly. You see, I've been ignoring the business end, but apparently the editors really haven't been reciprocating. Why is it that editors return things so danged quickly [grin]. So I took a morning to do the regular grind. No words this morning. Or maybe I should say that all my words were in the "Dear Editor here's a story" vein.

     Still. It's all progress.

     Have a great day.

So, do you lick the envelopes or tape them?
