I received the latest issue of Asimov's. Just what I needed. More to read.

I've been fighting that battle for the past week or two, by the way. you know, I used to say that I never had any time to read once I started writing. But the past year I've adjusted my perspective. I read most, if not all, of four magazines every month. If we conservatively guess each magazine carries 35,000 words of fiction, that means I'm looking at 140,000 words a month. Total: 1,680,000 a year. That's not counting the three or four novels I'll grab a year. Add 400,000. New total: 2,080,000. Then there's the non-fiction I pick up for various reasons. Between magazines, books, and Net stuff, I'll credit myself a conservative half a million. And of course, I read a lot of original manuscripts.

So, I'm thinking I read about 2.7 million words a year--2 million being some form of fiction.

Maybe not as much as anyone else. But it's more than I really thought I read.

Anyway. Stories ready to hit the post office. More progress on the book. Things are getting to an even keel. Finally.

     Have a great day.

And then there's stuff I read at work. But I'm not counting contemporary fantasy
