Day 2: Problem #1

1,000 words.:

Despite starting a but later than planned, I had a nice little morning. Of the thousand words, I would say some 750 were "new" creation, the rest were bits of "old stuff" that I added back in, and then mashed around a bit.

One of the problems I ran into in the first attempt was that there is a good deal of character interaction going on in the early stages of the book, and I was never able to get fully into things so the characters were coming out flat (in my opinion--which I suppose you'll have to take, since I'm the only one reading what I've written at this point!). So I've really tried to focus myself here yesterday and today. I've done a good bit of detailed thinking about feelings and about perspectives, and all that stuff. I feel closer to the three main characters than I did before, though I'll admit I still need depth in a few places.

So, I've got work to do there.

The proof will be more evident one way or the other by the end of the week, I suppose. If, by then, I feel in tune with the characters, then I know I'll be fine. If I'm still struggling, then I've probably got a real problem.

Of course, I've yet to hit the parts of the story where I felt I had even bigger issues--those being large worldview/political wheeling and dealing of governments and other various factions. I'm hoping the outlining work I did in the week prior to starting this will hold up. And I think it will.

But you never know until you get there, eh?

Stay tuned, eh? Same bat channel. Same bat time.

Suppose you're this creative on your taxes, too, right?
