Day 30: Charge On!

Though I'll almost certainly not finish today, I'm still working hard toward that goal. First, stranger things have happened, and I could find myself getting there--though there's a lot of story to cover and I just can't see it happening without me cheating a great deal. But more importantly, I'm fairly dialed into the story right now, and I don't want to loose my momentum.

As I've said before, a Dare is all about focus and momentum. Finishing is secondary to that goal--though I've got to admit that this is not how I felt last night as I saw my goal slipping away. Nor do I truly feel it right this moment.

This knowledge is just that ... it's logical knowledge. Logical truth. And logic means little when a human being is striving to achieve a big goal.

I don't take losing well. I've learned to be a better winner than I used to be. And I've developed a healthier perspective over the years. I've learned to be a gracious loser to a point ... but I don't think I'll ever be a good loser. And make no bones, when I miss one of my deadlines, I feel like I've lost. It's this that makes me as good at what I do as I am.

Take that for whatever you think it means.

I'll get over missing this deadline, though.

Time will move on, and I'll be left with this book that I have grown to really like so far (assuming I don't mess up the ending over the next few days). And I'll look back and see what a good time this month has been. But first I just need to let myself have that space. And I think I'll do that best by focusing on the book until it's finished. I'll manage it best that best by charging on.

     So that's what I'll do.

     Have a great day.
