Getting Back on the Horse
May 7, 2001 7:31 a.m.
3,400 words yesterday 2,200 words this morning

Brigid graduated from sixth grade Friday. (There's still a month of school left, but they had their big program and everything complete with the school play, and the graduates standing up and addressing the entire audience with a few parting words). The kids got a traditional limo ride around town afterwards, and then we all met at a local restaurant.

We were up until 1:00, and with my parents in town we had a late brunch Saturday around noon.

All of this is to day that I was brain dead Saturday and didn't get a lick of writing done. That's the only part of the weekend I didn't like--but after an hour of trying, and drifting off, and deciding to check a web site, and trying to concentrate on the story, and then seeing a piece of paper that needed filing, I decided it would be best to just pack it in for the day.

So I did.

Sometimes, it just isn't there. And when it's not there, well ... let it be, you know?

But I got a good start Sunday morning. In a lot of ways it felt like getting back on the horse after it kicked me off Saturday. I got back intot he flow, and the words came pretty cleanly.

Sunday afternoon, Lisa and I hosted a skate party for the graduates--there are twelve in her school, so it wasn't quite as hectic as that could sound.

After dinner, Lisa shooed me down to write, and I picked up pretty much where I left off. This morning, I'm burning along again.

So, it was a pretty good weekend.

Hope yours was great, too.
