A Milestone Met
June 23, 2001

     The storyboard is complete.

I'll spend a couple hours doing an overall review of the flow later this morning and throughout the afternoon, jotting notes and developing some firmer ideas on how to plug what gas I find (merely the process itself has uncovered several small items I'm worried about).

I've also modified the ending a bit, which doesn't surprise me too much given that I pushed the first draft a bit.

     I feel good again.

Of course, it's not exactly time to break out the champagne or anything.

Only a milestone met on the road to happiness.

Okay -- everyone raise their hands ... do you have problems keeping your desk clean?

     I do.

A listing of contents at the moment:

  • Computer monitor and speakers, still playing Elton John if you must know

  • Something I'll loosely call an "organizer" but is really just a wooden device where I can throw stuff. Current contents inlcude: Two zipdrives, old greeting cards, past issues of the SFWA Forum and Speculations. Notes. Clipings from magazines. Copies of letters a relative wrote back in the late 1800s on a trip up to the Yukon or something like that. Other assorted junk.

  • One tube of lip balm: Given to me two Christmases ago, partially used.

  • Two library books, currently overdue.

  • Analog, Asimov's, & F&SF ... total of seven magazines sitting on a pile of drafts of short stories I haven't finished yet.

  • A letter from a convention.

  • A notebook from space camp.

  • A letter from Analog accepting "Parchment in Glass."

  • Notes from this novel.

  • A note from Lisa about a phone call I got yesterady while I was away at work.

  • Two floppy disks, filled with the first draft of this novel.

  • Rough design notes on home networking.

  • A stapler

  • Keys to the farm, enclosed in an envelope.

  • A spinning whirly-gig thing that has pens and scissors and other office supplies ... you've seen one before. Probably got one sitting on your desktop as you read this.

  • Docking bay for my Visor handheld

  • Empty heart shaped candy box from Valentine's Day.

  • Two CD jewel cases: Elton John (natch) and guitar instrumental music.

  • Receipts from the farm.

  • A flashlight case -- just in case :)

  • Pens.

  • My Visor handheld.

  • A ceramic coaster we bought in London.

  • A small vial of water and gold flake Brigid bought me when she was cruising in Alaska with my parents.

All that so that you'll know that the first thing I'll need to do to get working is to clean up a little.

     I'm sure you're thrilled.

You're as exciting as a grocery list, man
