All I did was change a video driver. That's all. I swear. Two days, a hard drive wipe, and a fresh install later, I'm almost back to where I was Thursday. Grrrrr ….

Until that time, I had been completely in line with Mike Jasper's September Dare of spending at least an hour a day writing. As it is, I suppose I still averaged something between two and three hours a day. Not too bad, I suppose. Still, I hate to miss on the last couple days of the event.

     Oh, well.

On the brighter side, I went to the U. S. Grand Prix yesterday. A good friend of mine--John Bodin for those of you who know-had an extra ticket, and kindly offered it to me. Since I had already messed up the dare, it meant that I could go without an umbrella of guilt hanging over my head. This was good because it was such a beautiful day that an umbrella would have been terrible baggage. It was truly a glorious day. No clouds. Cool temperatures. Beautiful people in an international crowd. Very fast cars.

The Ferraris were fast, but in the end not fast enough. Crowd favorite Juan Pablo Montoya lead the race until something on his car broke. Mikka Hakkanen won after having been penalized two spots on the starting grid due to an infraction during the practice session.

I even saw John Mellencamp and his wife (Elaine, I think?) as they were walking out.

     What a coup, eh?

It was back to the salt mines this morning.
