Making Headway
November 1, 2001 7:21 a.m.
I had a pretty good morning despite not waking up too early. Making headway on the "bad guy white paper," and developing some good background. Along the way I've developed a few characters that I may or may not use as I sit down to write more real words on the novel. All of this is good. I'm getting more comfortable with the idea of going in again.

I'm a fast writer when I know what I'm going to write, you know? I'm not so fast when I'm not so comfortable.

Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I know.

"Fast" is not the goal.

Don't worry.

After I'm done with fleshing this stuff out, I'll spend a little time knitting together the plot again -- probably update my sticky-story board, and only then will I be ready to actually write again. With luck, though, once I'm done with the pre-work, the words will flow pretty quickly ... because ... well ... that's how I do it.

BTW:

I read Linda Dunn's "Christmas at Ground Zero" in the December Analog, and was quite impressed with it. Take a moment to read it if you get a little time. Very nice, high-profile work by a fellow NAW-ite.

Have a great day.
