Moulin Rouge was released to DVD today -- and I do mean today. Given Lisa's affinity for the film, you can guess where I was last night at midnight. You got it. I can pretty much guarantee that the Collins household was the very first family in Columbus, Indiana to own a copy of the film.

You can also guess what we'll be doing today.

Which is fine by me because I kind of like it, too.

     Conversation this morning.

     "Daddy, you're on vacation, right?"

     "Yes."

"So that means you could take me to school again today."

Brigid doesn't like riding the school bus, and occasionally attempts to get me to take her in. I do so when it suits her needs (like when she has something bulky she needs to take to school, and riding on the bus would subject it to punishment beyond what it can stand). And I do it occasionally during particularly bad weather, like yesterday when it was pouring down rain. I remember waiting in the rain for school buses, and I remember my dad taking me to school. I don't think I would have missed anything growing up without the standing in the rain thing. So, anyway, I had taken her to school yesterday.

"It's not raining today," I replied.

     "So?"

"So I want to write this morning."

"You can always write when you get back home."

"Yes, that's correct. But the streets are dry. It's not happening today."

I'll sacrifice my writing time when she needs me, I'm thinking right about then. But there's no good reason why she can't ride the bus today.

She pouted, then went to get her stuff.

     Me?

I came downstairs and got to work. Two pages so far ... and counting.
