Progress of the Unsurprising Sort

I'm having good progress on the book this week. I've gotten through the first 200 + pages of the work, and it's going quite smoothly. This should not be surprising. It is a fourth draft of this material, after all. The book is a bit over 500 pages, and I don't expect too much trouble anywhere except between pages 300-400 (where I did quite a bit of first draft work during the previous pass).

I've down quite a bit of smoothing--not just line editing, though there is a good bit of that. By smoothing, I mean reordering things, picking events up and moving them a little so that they flow better than before. This always takes a little rewriting, of course. It's rare that a paragraph written in one place can be picked up and moved unchanged to another place and still have it make proper sense. So there's work there.

Right now I'm pleased and excited by what I''m seeing.

We'll see if I feel the same after pages 300-400.

It appears that I've come to an agreement with the fictionwise folks to make some of my short stories available through their site. I've signed the contract, and mailed it along. Details to follow as they become available.

And, if you didn't see on the front page, the Land/Space anthology sent me an update saying that they've placed the anthology with Tesseract, and it will be published in June of this year. This is excellent news to me because the story they selected ("Learning the Language") is one of my personal, all-time favorites.

     Have a great day.
