A morning at the keyboard can be a great way to start the day.

Rather than proceed with the second book, I'm fiddling again on the first hundred pages of the novel I've been working on for the past year and a half. Reasons behind it are a long and boring story, so I'll not go deeply into them. But I think the story will be better for having done this, and so it's (almost by definition), a joy to work with. If I'm wrong--if the book is not better because of it--I figure I can always go back to this draft, so I'll only have wasted a little time.

What's time to a "new" writer?
