Horsehide Against Leather
August 21, 2002 7:19 a.m.
Brigid has to do something active outdoors to meet a PE requirement for school, so we've been out to the park a few times with a pair of baseball mitts and a cruddy old ball. They've been warm nights, and we've thrown until the sun pretty much goes down and we can't really see much of anything. Brigid is still learning to "throw like a boy," which I think is among the reason she's chosen this activity. "Most of the other girls throw like boys," she said, which I think says something about the progress society has made in this area.

Not that I'm saying everyone should throw a baseball like a boy. [sheesh!]

I haven't actually played ball for a long time, and so I had forgotten the simple pleasure of seeing the ball following its arced path, and the comfortable sound of horsehide hitting leather.

More good progress this morning--another day another thousand words. I'm firmly into the last of three sections I planned to update. I was originally hoping I could be finished completely by Friday, but my best guess is that this won't happen until Sunday sometime. Strange things happen sometimes, though. While completion on Friday looks bleak, like Terrell Davis, I'm just going to do everything I can do and see how it works out...all the while keeping in mind that completion on Sunday is pretty danged good.

Have a great day.
