The Best Part
September 4, 2002 7:23 a.m.
So I'm back from a whirlwind Worldcon. It was, as usual, an excellent time. I enjoy that environment for the people that hang around more than anything else. I'll restrain myself from going into a long, in-depth naming of names. You know who you are.

But if you were there and I spoke with you at any length at all, please know I had a really good time and that you were certainly a big part of that. Among all the other attractions (the art shows, and dealers's rooms, and--of course--the Hugos) I always enjoy catching up.

I focused my energy heavily on trying to figure out how to market novels (well, duh, eh?), and managed to learn a lot while I was out there. Between the cracks I also developed the first draft of a short story, and zipped through the first hundred pages or so of the fantasy novel I'm preparing to package. On the plane home I outlined a second short story.

This morning I scanned over about half of the SF story. Tomorrow I'll finish it, and if I'm happy as I hope to be, out they will go.

The work is always the best part, you know?

Have a great day.
