The Bad With the Good
October 3, 2002 6:27 a.m.
I was in Chicago the past two days at a conference for work. I think it would be interesting to live in Chicago. By that, I mean like having a small apartment nearby and working someplace you could walk to. It's a clean city--at least downtown, and there's always a zillion things to do. Certainly a culture shock in relation to the norm in Columbus, Indiana.

I have to say that the stay didn't start off well. I met a guy I know from Nashville there in the airport (he works for my same company, and we were going to the same conference, so it wasn't like that was a big surprise). When we got to the hotel at 10:#0 at night, we were shocked and amazed to find they had given away our guaranteed room. I immediately glommed onto the presentation I saw sent around the Net a year or two ago, wherein two intrepid travelers were denied a room by a customer rep named Mike. If anyone happens to still have that link, you might pass it on.

Well, to make a long story shorter, two hotels and an hour or so later, we were finally placed into a room.

Geez.

I'm happy to say that in this case the original hotel made up for themselves quite nicely. The conference was okay in places at least, and I managed to catch a earlier flight home than I was originally scheduled for--all good. I even managed to catch the ESPN Classic replay of the Louisville vs. Florida State game. Of course, I also managed to catch a cold.

So you take the bad with the good, and go on.

Managed to get a bit of writing done--mark-ups on a story, and the very beginnings of another. The plan is still to put out about a month's worth of weekly short stories, then go back into book two of my SF story.

Have a great day.
