OK, I admit it--if you find techy-junk support processes of the writing life boring, this entry isn't for you. Sorry.

I spent most of the morning looking at markets. Things have changed a bit, but not so much that it wasn't a familiar process. I'm thinking about changing the technology I'm using in a few places.

First, I've always tracked submissions and rejections on a simple spreadsheet with stories down the columns and markets across. It's a nice, simple process in its own way, but a pain in the tail in others. I'm considering moving to a more fully featured database-driven approach. We'll see.

Second, my hosting time is up at sff.net, and I'm considering moving the site for financial reasons. Hopefully you'll get a bit of a warning before I would go dead for a bit.

Third, I'm considering dumping the raw HTML-driven pages of this journal (actually, perl-driven, but what the heck) to go with one of them new-fangled bloggy things. Though I still grumble at the term "blog." The new technology has a lot of advantages, obviously. On the other hand, there's something gritty about the process of doing it by hand, something ancient about coding the fonts and italics. I can get a sense of performance from working on the FTP process, seeing the directory structure under the links is akin to working backstage in a play, perhaps. I don't know.

What I do know is that I have only so much time in the day. Anything that removes clutter is good. So you may find changes here. Or you may not. We shall see, we shall see.

BTW -- I'll be out for a few days, probably not here until next Tuesday. Don't worry about me. I'm fine. It's a sad state of affairs when I have to account for myself, eh?

Have a great day.
