Halloween Hearts is an anthology of true love & spooky romance; twelve tales of cursed love, monstrous meet-cutes, dark and stormy witchcraft, and happily ever hauntings. You can get your copy just in time for Halloween (and get your name included as a supporter) by backing the project on Kickstarter.
I’ve heard it said that movies bring us together.
That’s probably true. Our favorite movies speak to us in ways that are as deep as evolution can cast.
The same can be said for theaters.
In the town where Brigid grew up, there was one of those classic old theatres that had been run down for longer than it hadn’t been. Every year or three, there would be a big charity run to save it. Stefon Mears set “Roll Credits,” his story we selected for Halloween Hearts, in just such a place, and he does it firmly enough that I can smell the dust and popcorn. I’d say the guy loves his old theatres.
Then he went about giving us Paul and Gina, a pair of intriguing Cos-play movie goers who think a good time is attending a Halloween night horror film extravaganza. This is a romance, though. So, yes, we know there’s going to be a bit of a rumble as we go. We are not, however, quite prepared for this. Nor, maybe, are Paul and Gina—but in the end, it’s up to them to save…well…again, this is a short story. I’ll not spoil the brew.
I think it’s best that you read this one with a bucket of popcorn and the soundtrack of an old film running through the projector.
