Kickstarters Ron Likes

Kickstarter is a great way to support authors directly. This is a collection of projects that, since I’ve found them interesting, I figure you might, too. I’m trying to keep it mostly up to date, but that’s a real game of whack-a-mole, now, isn’t it? Let’s just say I’ll do my best! Note that if something launches in the future, you can sign up to get notified when they go live.

Kel E. Fox (Active!) – Everfire: Operation Magic School

Just scanning this, I found it to be interesting all on its own. Intriguing story, interesting characters, well-presented. Then I realized that the author is also the illustrator, and I thought: Very Cool. I love this kind of project. One person, putting their everything together to make something cool.

David Trotter (Active!) – Birthrights: Deluxe Collector’s Edition

This is what my gang calls a “pretty book” project. It looks like a beautiful book, and the fact that it’s a steampunk fantasy is even better. What got me excited was the team. The writer brought in three different artists to work on three different parts of the project, which speaks to a certain attention to detail now, doesn’t it? If you’re a fan of special editions, you’ll want to take a look!

Brigid Collins (Launches August 18): All Hallows of Feyland: A Cozy But Dangerous Novel Trio

I like this one for way more than the fact that Brigid is the writer—but if you’ve read her stuff, you’ll know that’s a very good reason all by itself. In this series, she’s writing in Anthea Sharp’s popular Feyland world—with Anthea’s support and participation. The covers are great, the books are great. If you’re into Halloween and cozy horror, this series is definitely for you, so get notified now. Launches August 18th!

Brigid and Ron Collins (Launches Sept 1)  – Halloween Hearts

I don’t usually promote my own project in these “here’s another thing” bits, but this is a special case. Halloween Hearts is an anthology that Brigid and I are editing. Twelve spooky love stories we love by twelve amazing writers we love. Check out that Table of Contents! You can also get work from us as Add-ons and Stretch goals. The project is in prelaunch now, so you can sign up to get notified of its release. We expect it to deliver in time to put into your special someone’s Trick or Treat bag.

Tami Veldura (Launches August 18) – The Bone Witch

A brand new magical world for the no-spice, female-lead, urban fantasy fan. Ghosts, curses, and the call for adventure await! Tami is an exceptionally interesting writer of many things. If you’re into short fiction focused on all those things in the description, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. Launches mid-August.

Beth Deweese (Launches in October) – Penned Fate, Spelled Inkwell, Book 1

This is interesting in so many ways. First, the story itself catches my eye…a magic shop selling pens. Hmmm…interesting. The art is cute and gives the vibe of a nice read in which the romance is character-driven (and then the whole fantasy vibe of the dragon. Don’t get me started!). The project itself has a ton of fun things in it, and then we get to the point that this is Beth’s first project and she’s already crested 150 followers. Follow the buzz, right? This one could be a lot of fun. (Launching in September!)

Mishael Jasper (Launches August 17) – The Finder

Michael Jasper broke into the game around the time I did, so our time in publishing has run in parallel. He’s a solid writer, so if you’re into supernatural thrillers that span worlds (and, seriously, who isn’t?), this one will be for you. Launches in mid-August!

DeAnna Knippling & Jamie Ferguson – Monsters in Love
