Halloween Hearts is an anthology of true love & spooky romance; twelve tales of cursed love, monstrous meet-cutes, dark and stormy witchcraft, and happily ever hauntings. You can get your copy just in time for Halloween (and get your name included as a supporter) by backing the project on Kickstarter.
In one of our first Kickstarter updates, I wrote that Ryan M. Williams’ “Carver’s Walk” was so amazing that when Brigid and I got together to talk about it, she stared me down from across the table and declared to me that “we are taking this one no matter what you say because it’s beautiful and glorious and perfect in every way, so there.”
This is true. The story is everything that I think Brigid and I wanted when we talked about the project to begin with. It’s cute in a Burtonesque way. It’s deep in that way, too. And it’s complex in the way it goes about winding you through the path to its delightful ending.
It’s also true that I loved it just as much. So much so that it serves as the anchor to the anthology.
One of the true joys of editing an anthology—which maybe should really be called curating an anthology…I mean, sure, we edited every story, but that’s not the important piece of the job. There is something sublime about picking up a story, reading through it, and knowing that someone out there is in for a real treat.
