Halloween Hearts is an anthology of true love & spooky romance; twelve tales of cursed love, monstrous meet-cutes, dark and stormy witchcraft, and happily ever hauntings. You can get your copy just in time for Halloween (and get your name included as a supporter) by backing the project on Kickstarter.
When Bob Jeschonek writes, you really ought to read. The guy really can—and does—write just about anything. Often in the same story. There’s a reason he’s a USA Today bestselling author. In this case, we get a delightful rivals-to-lovers romp, one Halloween at a time, that gives the idea of possession a wild ride.
In my first blurb about “We Only Live at Midnight,” I wrote, “He’s an incubus, she’s a succubus. They get along. Kinda.” Maybe I should have changed that last word to eventually. Because what we have here are Crux and Tisket, a pair of demons living with a cursed history, and stuck in a loop that gives them only an hour every Halloween (midnight, natch). They’ve been doing it just long enough that the anger has faded just enough that they have at least a few things in common—the most obvious being a disdain for both their situation and a sense of aggravation over the taste of the two bodies they fall into each year.
Let’s just say it this way: “We Only Live At Midnight” might be the most entertaining story in this volume. It’s a shade wacky, of course, because it’s a case of Jeschonek punching the “Max Fun” button as he pulls out all the Halloween Tricks. On the flipside, though, it’s also an amazing piece of work because, right there, under the cover of this wild ride of a story, is not one, but (possibly) two love stories. This is what Bob Jeschonek does, you see?
That’s what makes him one of my favorite writers.
